about

Motor City Madness is the first single from Memoirs of Hi-Tech Jazz, the forthcoming album by Detroit-born-and-based artist, Waajeed.

Coming from an album inspired by revolutionary efforts against oppressive hegemonies in Detroit and in Black locales around the world it is entirely fitting that the single should be supported by a remix from the legendary Underground Resistance, a group who’ve taken the same influences and translated them into a global message.

Motor City Madness invokes a direct link to the lineage of Techno and Jazz fusions in Detroit as horn and saxophone intermingle with synthesisers and electric pianos. Albeit subconsciously, Waajeed extends on the legacy of the musical form, merging the intuitive impulses of Blues riffs with the programmatic sonics of manufactured drum machines. The equivalent of a prefix menu served up with a gumbo of the chef's choice.

For the remix UR’s Mike Banks follows the lead of the original’s melange of genres adding a little extra spice. By thickening the bassline, peppering the mix with extra brass from the Mad Brass Horn Section, and adding strings courtesy of Six Mile Strings, UR further explore the dynamic intersection of music, history, and geography.

In the final moments, the track breaks down and reveals a trademark hypnotic groove, which teases with its brevity.
